Friday, May 22, 1896, Fred Rudolph, a 17 year old son of A. K. Rudolph of Northtown, was bitten on the hand by a bug or snake unknown, and fearing poison, the men around took him to a saloon and gave him whisky, (three pints) from the effect of which he died in a few hours.

Rev. Lockard officiated at his funeral Sunday, May 24th. He was buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Mendon township.
