Died at his residence on Locust-Hill Wagner, Clayton County Iowa, on the 29th day of September, of disease of the heart, Mathew Thompson, Jr., in the 10th year of his age.

Farewell, dearest Brother, O! Farewell!
‘Tis hard for us to let thee go-
O’ the agony of our hearts no tongue can tell,
The sorrow of our hearts no one can know.
But while we weep we know
That thou art an angel above –
Freed from thy toils here below,
And dwelling in that bright world of love!
Farewell, dearest Brother! Again-
Soon we’ll meet thee in Heaven above;
A bright crown of glory we’ll gain,
And an eternity of unending love.
