Died in Elkader, April 28, 1868, Mr. John Cooney, aged 42 years.
The deceased, as will be remembered by our readers, met with a terrible accident a week previous in falling over an abutment while handling timber, striking his face on a bed of sharp broken rocks. The abutment is some 20 feet high, and it was the wonder of his friends that he was not killed instantly. However, he lingered until the 28th, bearing his sufferings with a wonderful Christian fortitude.
Mr. Cooney was a native of Tipperary, Ireland. He was a long resident of St. Louis and has lived in this place about two years, respected and honored in both places by all who knew him.
An industrious, frugal and temperate man he was decidedly, and he was as honest as the day was long. Couple this with the fact that he leaves a wife and three children who required his strong and willing arm for support.
