Mark L. Gratace, 62, of Prairie du Chien, Wis. passed away surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation was Thursday and one hour before services at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were Friday at the funeral home. Military rites were held by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. A private family inurnment will be at the later date.
Mark was born Sept. 26, 1947 in Berwyn, Ill., the son of Mario and Marlys (Jacob) Gratace. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
He married Kathy Gull on Aug. 23, 1969, and they later divorced. He married Lana Voelzke-Hadacek on Nov. 8, 1986.
He worked as a tour bus driver for over 30 years. Mark was an avid Nascar fan who loved the Cubs, Packers and especially his daughters.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 23 years, Lana Gratace of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; three daughters, Michelle (Travis) Geuder of Guttenberg, Marcia (John) O'Neill of Washington, D.C. and Christine (Matt) Alioto of LaCrescent, Minn.; his dear aunt who raised him, Ruth Kruse of Elkader; five grandchildren and special cousins, Karen Gruman and Bob Kruse.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an uncle, Eldon Kruse.
