Died, March 16th, 1864, at the age of 11 months and 12 days, Minnie Florence, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Egbert Branch, in vicinity of Elkader, Clayton county, Iowa.

What agony! – the heart seems ---,

A shade hath passed o’er all,

Death has come ‘round the hearthstone,

Bearing down like a heavy pall.

The deliver came like an Angel,

Hovering but a little while,

They severed body and spirit,

O’er spreading the face with a smile.

Such flowers to thee are given,

But Nature teaches Death is their fate,

Water them well while living,

God has a right which to take.

Bosom it gently Mother Earth,

Break not the stillness with sound-

Hark ‘tis in heaven’s own Gold streets-

Angels are gathering round.

Join with them your chorus

Singing a last farewell-

Farewell ill – in heaven is no such,

Always with her you will dwell.
