Died at Lodomillo, Clayton county, on the 14th of December, 1856, Maria C., wife of Francis C. Madison, aged 23 years.
The deceased was a most amiable woman, an affectionate wife, and a kind neighbor. Her disease was consumption, which has been wasting her away for about a year.
She had been on a short visit to Minnesota, with a view to benefitting her health; but the disease had fastened too surely upon her, and in six weeks after her return, she was called to part with earthly friends, and to go to that undiscovered country form whose bourne no traveler returns, leaving an affectionate husband and a large circle of friends to mourn her early departure.
She had been a member of the Methodist church for two years previous to her death, and dying testified to the blissful realities of the religion she professed while here, and expressed her confidence in the love and mercy of that Saviour, who has promised to save all come unto him through faith.
“Peaceful be that silent slumber,
Peaceful in the grave so low;
Thou no more wilt join in number,
Thou no more our songs shalt know.”
