HORACE G. JENKINS,
was born in Garnavillo, Iowa, on November 17, 1859, and died at his home in this city on Saturday, May 16, 1914, after a several months illness. He was 54 years, 5 months and 29 days of age at the time of his death. On November 28, 1899, he was married at Guttenberg to Mrs. Emma Rau. For a number of years he was engaged in farming, later coming to Guttenberg, where he resided until his death. He was at one time a member of the Clayton County Board of Supervisors and Mayor of Guttenberg, but of late years he had been successfully engaged in the real estate and insurance business in Guttenberg. He was a kind and true husband, father and friend. One son and one daughter preceded him in death. Besides his widow his death is deeply mourned by 2 sons (Charles and Walter, of Guttenberg,) [sic] one step-son (Albert Rau, of Guttenberg,) [sic] 3 sisters (Mrs. Fred Hedeman, of Guttenberg, Mrs. John Stebbbins, of Missouri and Miss Christina Jenkins, of McGregor,) [sic] 1 brother (Frank Jenkins, of Stanhope, Iowa,) [sic] 3 grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends by whom he will be sadly missed. He was a patient sufferer and did not give up hopes for recovery until the Angel of Death called him to the other world, where all pains are forgotten. All that loving hands could do and medical knowledge could suggest to ward off death was done for him, but all to no avail. He was a member of the M. W. A., R. N. A., Yoeman [sic], Masonic and Oddfellow orders. Funeral services were held at his late home Tuesday afternoon, and conducted under the auspices of the M. W. A. Lodge. Interment was made in the City cemetery. The funeral was largely attended.
CARD OF THANKS.We hereby wish to thank all those who so kindly assisted us during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father, Horace G. Jenkins. We also wish to thank the R. V. A., M. W. A., Yoeman [sic] and I. O. O. F. Orders, the choir and for the many beautiful floral contributions. Adv. [sic]
