MRS. FRIEDERICKE LAKE,
whose death we mentioned in last week’s Press, was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, on July 2, 1839, and died at her home in Guttenberg, Iowa, on May 14, 1914, the cause of her death being cancer of the stomach. She was 74 years, 10 months and 12 days of age at the time of her death. On October 10, 1857, she came to America settling at Guttenberg, Iowa, where she lived until her death. On July 2, 1860, she was married at Guttenberg to Mr. Henry Lake, who preceded her in death on May 2, 1892. To this union were born seven children, of which two also preceded the mother in death, namely, one son died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Pasker, died on December 18, 1899. the living children are Mrs. Geo. Holtfoester, of St. Louis, Missouri, Henry and Wm. Lake, of Luxemburg and Ben and O. H. Lake, of this city. Deceased was a kind and true mother and friend, always ready to do kind acts for those in need, and was therefore loved by all who knew her. Besides her children, her death is deeply mourned by 26 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. Tobias Moser, of Millville, and Mrs. Henry Becker, of Postville, and a large circle of relatives and friends by whom she will be sadly missed. She was also a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Funeral services were held at St. John’s Lutheran church in this city Sunday afternoon, Rev. Janzig officiating. Interment was made in the city cemetery. The funeral was very largely attended. All the children were present at the funeral.

[NOTE: Her maiden name was Klaehen, Klehen, Klön, or some variant of those surnames, based on St. Paul Lutheran Church records, Garnavillo, IA, about her sister, Sophia (Mrs. Tobias) Moser, who was formerly Mrs. Johann Hermann Mohrmann. Her maiden name is given as “Klein” in her marriage record in the St. Paul Lutheran Church books.]
