Elmer G. Smart Was Son of Former Postmaster
_______

Word has been received here of the death last Saturday at Lansing, Michigan, of Elmer G. Smart, 79, a native of Guttenberg whose death followed a long illness. The funeral services were held at Lansing on Monday.

A retired employe [sic] of the New York Central railway, Mr. Smart was born in Guttenberg on September 21, 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Smart, pioneer Guttenberg settlers.

Surviving Mr. Smart are a niece, Mrs. Wiley Friedlein of Lansing, and a great nephew, Robert Friedlein. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister, Mrs. Harriet Smith Sullivan who died September 17, 1957.

Mr. Smart’s father, George Smart, was once Superintendent of the Guttenberg public schools and postmaster in Guttenberg.
