Former Guttenberg Resident Dies in South Dakota.
On August 7 at Oacoma, South Dakota, occurred the death of Jacob Kenzy at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 5 days. Deceased was born at Canton Bern, Switzerland on November 2, 1826, and later came to the United States. His wife preceded him in death several years ago. Mr. Kenzy was a former resident of Guttenberg, working here as wagonmaker for John Luther in the sixties and for Henry Eckart in the seventies. Later he moved with his family onto a farm on Cedar Creek and about 12 years ago deceased moved to South Dakota. He leaves to mourn his death four children (Charles and George Kenzy and Mrs. J. Truman, of Chamberlain, S. D., and Edward Kenzy, of Fairfield, Iowa) and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was a kind and ambitious man and will be missed by all who knew him. The remains arrived here Sunday afternoon and funeral services were held at St. John’s Lutheran church in this city, Rev. J. Janzig officiating. Interment was made in the city cemetery.

Relatives have been informed of the passing away of Jacob Kenzy, at Oacoma, S. D., on Wednesday, August 7, aged 81 years, 9 months and 12 days. Deceased was born in Canton Bern, Switzerland, October 25, 1830. He leaves four children, Charles, George and Mrs. J. Truman, of Chamberlain, S. D., and Eeward [sic], of Fairfield, Iowa. Mr. Kenzy had been working as wagon maker for blacksmith John Luther during the sixties, and for blacksmith Henry Eckart, during the seventies. Later he moved on a farm on Cedar creek and about twelve years ago moved to South Dakota. The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon at three o’clock, with services at St. John’s Lutheran church by Rev. J. Janzig. Interment will be made in the family lot, City Cemetery.
