Mrs. Clefisch Dies Monday At Farm Home
_______Was 83 Years Old; Came To America At Age of Six
_______Mrs. John Clefisch, 83 year old Volga township woman, died Monday, March 27, at the home of her son, William Clefisch, in that community. She was born in Osnabrock, Germany, on August 11, 1849.
When she was six years old she came to America with her parents and settled in the community where she was to spend the greater part of her life. She has been a resident of Volga township since that time, with the exception of 10 years spent with her daughter, Mrs. Louisa Duwe, at Janesville, Wis.
On May 30, 1869, she was united in marriage to John Clefisch, to which union was born eight children, five sons and two daughters. Her husband preceeded [sic] her in death on May 27, 1920.
She is survived by her children, namely: Mrs. Mary Dannenbring, Garber; John, Henry and Will, Volga township; Fred Clefisch and Mrs. Katherine Kottke, Jefferson township; and August Clefisch and Mrs. Louisa Duwe, Janesville, Wis. There are also 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from St. John’s Lutheran church in Guttenberg. Interment was made in the cemetery at Ceres. Rev. W. J. F. Adix, pastor of St. John’s, officiated.
