Died on the evening of February 5th, 1855, of pulmonary consumption, Mr. Isaac A. Cole, in the 29th year of his age, formerly of Wellsville, O.
If I had thought then coulds’t have died,
I might not weep for thee;
But I forgot when by thy side,That thou coulds’t mortal be,
It hardly through my mind had passed,The time would ere be o’er,
When I on thee should look my last,And though should smile no more.
And still upon that face I look,
And think ‘twill smile again,
And till the thought I cannot brook,That I must look in vain;
Yet I bless thee for that noble heart,The tender and the true,
Where mine hath found the happiest rest,That e’er fond woman new.
And I do not think in thy bright home,
Thou hast forgotten me;
And I perhaps may soothe this heart,In thinking still of thee;
Yet there was round thee such a dawn,Of light ne’er seen before,
As fancy never could have drawn,And never can restore.
