Died at his home near Garnavillo, on Monday evening, Dec. 11, 1893, at the advanced age of 73 yrs. 10 mo., 28 da., Johan Frederick Clamer Wilker, after an illness of only 3 days.
Deceased was born in Amt Vitlager, Hisen, Hanover, Jan. 14, 1820. He came to America in 1849, and on July 4, 1849 married in New Bremen, Ohio.
In 1850 he and his wife came west and settled on the farm in Garnavillo township. Besides his widow, 3 children survive to mourn the loss of the kind husband and father.
Of these, Fred and John both unmarried live on the old homestead, while one daughter, Lizzie, is the wife of Hy. Schlarke.
Thus another pioneer has gone to join the throng in the (rest of paragraph is blurred)… and death came to him in the garb of a friend. When the summons came he was ready. Bidding her dear ones a fond farewell, he silently and peacefully passed away.
Mr. Wilker was a quiet unostentatious man, a good citizen and an active church member and a faithful friend. To his family he was indulgent and kind, anticipating their every wish. To his friends he was faithful and true, over ready to extend the hand of fellowship. Though it may not add to his good qualities, we believe he had not enemies.
May he rest in peace and may the good seeds that he sowed during life, ripen to a bountiful harvest.
