Last Friday evening, June 14, 1895, the people of our town were surprised and shocked to hear of the sudden death of Mr. Jno. Koss of this township. Mr. Koss had not been feeling well for several weeks, but supposed it be a mere temporary indisposition. Friday he had assisted the stone masons who are working on his farm, and at about 5:30 P.M. he went into his room to rest, while his daughters attended to the milking. When they had finished their work they returned to the house and one of them went to his room to see how he was. She found him lying dead in his bed. Medical examination showed that he died of heart disease. His sudden demise is rendered still more painful when one remembers the sudden death of his wife which occurred April 17, two months ago.
John Henry Koss was born in Lueblow, Amt Neustad, Mecklenburg Schwerein, Germany, Nov. 24, 1832. In 1856 he came to this country and in 1861 he married his wife who as stated before, preceded him in death. Mr. Koss was buried Monday afternoon, Rev. F. Sommerlad officiating.
On account of the painting of St. Paul’s church, the funeral, which was a very large one, proceeded directly from the house to the cemetery.
