Edwin C. Dettman

Funeral services were held for Edwin C. Dettman, 94, Elkader, Monday, April 17, 2000 at Peace United Church of Christ with burial at the National Cemetery, Garnavillo. Rusty Phillips officiated. Pallbearers were Gary Scherf, Ray Curran, Donald Curran, Pat Curran, Jason Scherf and Nick Scherf. Arrangements were made by Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader

He was born January 18, 1906, on the family farm in Farmersburg township, Clayton County, Iowa, son of Julius and Alvina (Hamann) Dettman. He was raised and educated in the area attending the Pioneer country school north of National, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Garnavillo.

Edwin was united in marriage to Lois Schmidt, February 11, 1932. Two sons were born to this union. Together they farmed north of National over the years. Edwin also sold seed corn. In 1988 they moved to Elkader, Edwin died Saturday morning April 15, 2000, at the Elkader Care Center. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ. He was a past member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. He is responsible for organizing the Merry Mixers Dance Club.
