Mrs. Rose Bente
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Rose Bente Wednesday, Jan. 30, 1963 at 2 p.m. at the Peace United Church of Christ with the Rev. Alvin Volle officiating. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.
Pallbearers were Myron Dettmann, Julius Dettmann, Dale Dettmann, Arlyn Hempeler, Lendall Schievelbein and Orville Zittergruen.
Rose Marie, daughter of Julius and Alvina Hamann Dettmann, was born April 16, 1889, on a farm near National, and died Jan. 27, 1963, at the Central Community Hospital, Elkader, where she had been a patient for four days.
Mrs. Bente received her schooling in the rural school, was baptized June 23, 1889, at the home of her parents and confirmed October 11, 1903, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at National and had been a member of the Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, since 1913. She was also a member of the women’s guild.
She was married Jan. 15, 1913, to Michael Bente at the home of her parents by Rev. Otto Wappler. They lived on the Bente farm south of Elkader until 1923 when they moved to Elkader where they resided until 1937 when they moved back to the farm returning to Elkader in 1944. The past five years were spent in a nursing home in Elkader and Strawberry Point.
Mrs. Bente was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother and sister who died in infancy.
She is survived by three sons, Leighton, Elkader; Duane, Marshalltown; and Harold, Independence, Kan.; four grandchildren, three brothers, John and Alvin Dettmann, Monona and Edwin Dettmann, Farmersburg; three sisters, Mrs. Louis (Leone) Mueller, Monona; Mrs. A.J. (Melvina) Hempeler, Garnavillo, and Mrs. Vern (Hilda) Marting, Monona.
