Elkader- Mabel Thorsgaard, 85, of Elkader, formerly of St. Olaf, died Sunday morning, June 3, 2007, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader following a lengthy illness. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf, by the Rev. Marshall Hahn. Burial: Wednesday, Norway Lutheran Cemetery, rural St. Olaf. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader, and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

She was born April 5, 1922, near Elgin, to Daniel and Celia (Frieden) Butikofer. She was united in marriage to Willie Thorsgaard on Nov. 5, 1947. Two children were born to this union. They lived in St. Olaf most of her life, where she worked many years at the U.S. Post Office. Mabel enjoyed her needlework, playing cards, visiting with friends and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Linda (Steve) Meister, Victoria, Texas, and Marlene (Dennis) Eberhardt, Elkader; three grandchildren, Stacey (Denny) Meyer, Cedar Rapids, Greg Meister, Victoria, Texas, and Jennifer (Shon) Elam, Cedar Rapids; one great-grandchild, Landon Meyer, Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Dan (Ann Marie) Butikofer, Elgin, and Silas (Pat) Butikofer, Clermont; and a brother-in-law, Merlin Hellum, Elgin.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie; two brothers, Ben and Elmer Butikofer; and four sisters, Carrie Trafelet, Leah Schneider, Tillie Hellum and Lorraine Houg.
