Mrs. Mathilda Mueller, nee Suhr, was born May 15, 1863, near Clayton Center, Iowa.
On Sept. 28, 1882, she was united in marriage to J. Louis Mueller. This union was blessed with four children, Emilie, Ina, Mathilda and Louis. Together with her husband, Mrs. Mueller lived on the farm in the vicinity of Clayton and National. Living part of the time in Garnavillo and part of the time in Farmersburg. The days of retirement were robbed of their joy when on Jan. 7, 1922, the husband was taken by death. Mrs. Mueller now continued life’s journey alone. About four years ago she became seriously ill, from which she never fully recovered. During these times the children showed for their mother true devotion and true care. Though not always understood, yet they continued in the Christian spirit of love and charity.
Death finally relieved Mrs. Mueller from this vale of sorrow, Monday, March 7, 1938, at about 1:30. Her death was caused by old age. She reached the age of 74 years, nine months and 22 days.
She was ever a member of the Lutheran church and of its organizations.
She leaves to mourn, her children, Mrs. Emilie Matt, Mrs. Ina Voelker, Mrs. Mathilda Brownson, Louis Mueller; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; also a host of other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, a sister had preceded her in death.
May she rest in peace and the eternal light shine.
Burial was made at Garnavillo, the Rev. H. M. Adix and the Rev. H. Steage officiating.
