Strawberry Point- Noble Palmer Pugh, 95, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, in Delaware Regional Medical Center, Manchester, after a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, United Methodist Church, Strawberry Point, by the Rev. Anita Bane. Burial: Mederville Cemetery, Mederville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Roberson Funeral Home, Strawberry Point.
Noble Pugh, son of Warren and Edna Baker Pugh, was born Aug. 26, 1905. He attended country school and then rode a horse nine miles to high school in Strawberry Point, where he graduated at age 15. In April 1930, Noble won the public speaking contest for junior college in Iowa City.
Noble married Faye Nueton in January 1934. For the next 15 years they farmed in Lodomillo Township, where Noble served 10 years as chairman of the farm program and as agent for Farm Bureau Insurance. In November 1949, they moved to town, where Noble continued with Farm Bureau Insurance and later with State Bond Investment Co. He served as secretary of the creamery board and chairman of Cass Township Trustees. In January 1960, he helped organize the Strawberry Point Development Corporation, serving as president. Noble owned an acreage south of town, where he raised pure-bred Hereford cattle. He played the violin with three different orchestras, was a member of the Methodist Church and a past master of the Masonic Lodge.
He leaves his wife, Faye; a daughter, Vicki Rettinger of Strawberry Point; a grandson, Brock of Strawberry Point; a niece, Barbara Smoot of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or Civic Center in Strawberry Point.
