Mary Dorothy Tuecke was born March 7, 1855 in Jefferson Twp., near Guttenberg. Her parents were Louis Miller and wife Dorothy nee Palas. She attended Confirmation instruction at St. Peter’s Church as Ceres, and was confirmed March 28, 1869 by Rev. Stockfeld.

On December 23, 1879, she was united in marriage to Julius Tuecke. The couple settled down on a farm of their own four miles east of St. Olaf. There they engaged in farming until March, 1898, when they retired and settled down in Garnavillo.

Mrs. Tuecke was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Lutheran church at Garnavillo and very active in its Ladies Aid Society.

As she always enjoyed good health, sickness in the form of pneumonia came to her as something unaccustomed, just before Christmas. But she bore this affliction patiently and under the skillful care of her physician and nurse she recovered from the pneumonia, but other complications set in which resulted in her death on Thursday night at 9 o’clock, January 17, 1929. She had reached the age of 73 years, 10 months and 10 days.

Mrs. Tuecke is mourned by her husband, Julius Tuecke, three sisters, Mrs. Anna Pahlas, of Farmersburg Twp., Mrs. Dorothy Hempeler, of Garnavillo and Mrs. M. Turner of Casper, Wyoming. Two Brothers, Carl and William died as children, while three other brothers, Henry, John and Louis have died within the past 16 years.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Bunge at St. Peter’s church. Interment was made in the new cemetery.
