Postville Herald, Thur., 14 July 1927.
David Vine Dunning was born January 17, 1864 in Franklin township, Allamakee county, and passed away at his home west of Monona, July 4, 1927, after a prolonged illness from heart trouble.
February 17, 1886, he was united in marriage to Eliza Jane Lytle. During all his years he has lived in the vicinity of Luana and Monona. He was the father of two children, Roy L. Dunning, now living on the old home farm north of Luana, and Mrs. Jessie Humphrey of New Albin. Besides the widow and two children he is survived by a brother, Henry of Alva, Oklahoma, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Black, of Enid, Oklahoma, and several grandchildren.
In early manhood he professed faith in God and has been a member of the Luana Methodist church for more than 30 years. He has been for a number of years an official of the church and one of its' most interested and loyal workers. One of his deepest concerns was that the church should occupy its rightful place in the community, and his greatest pleasure was when people were coming into Christian fellowship. The Christian interests always appealed to him and found him a dependable friend and willing supporter. One of his keenest regrets during his long illness was his inability to be in divine worship with the brethren at the appointed times.
He always carried a cheerful outlook upon things and even when he was suffering the most still seemed to expect that he would soon be better. This cheerful spirit of his will be missed by all who knew him, and the community is a heavy loser in the departure of such a man from its ranks of faithful citizens.
The funeral was held from the M.E. church in Monona last Thursday at two p.m., Rev. Morrow officiating. Interment in Monona Cemetery.
