Elkader- Albert Meder, 86, a widely-known Clayton county pioneer, died late Wednesday afternoon at his home here.
Mr. Meder was born July 13, 1864, in Cox Creek township. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meder, were among Clayton county's first settlers. Henry Meder was an extensive land owner. He platted the town of Mederville in 1888.
Mr. Meder farmed in Cox Creek township until 25 years ago, when he retired and moved to Elkader. He was one of the organizers of the Littleport creamery company and was president of the creamery company for 20 years. He had served as a Cox Creek township trustee and school board director. He also took an active part in civic affairs after coming to Elkader.
Mr. Meder is survived by two sons, Dr. L. A. Meder of Elkader and Earl Meder, Guttenberg; a daughter, Mrs. J. P. Zapf, Littleport; a brother, Charles, Elkader; and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Dittmer and Mrs. Rose Dodge, both of Strawberry Point. Mrs. Meder died in 1941.
Services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Witt chapel. Burial will be in the Mederville cemetery.
