Elgin Echo, Elgin, Iowa, Thur., 28 May 1896.

On Monday, May 11, 1896, occurred the death of Thomas Pollock after a protracted illness. Deceased was born in Eaglesham, Renfrawshire, Scotland, July 20, 1832. When 23 years of age he came to America and stopped in Kane County, Illinois. In 1856 he came to Clayton County, and settled in Highland Township where he has since resided. During the year 18__ (looks like 58) he married Helen Rood, a native of Scotland, who is living. Four children blessed the union, of whom but two survive; William and Mary, to mourn the loss of a kind parent. The decease of this noble man has caused the community to realize the loss of an ever obligening neighbor and a friend always ready to help the distressed. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved family who feel that there has occurred in their home an aching void which can never be filled. The funeral was held on Wednesday from the house. The services were conducted by Rev. Todd of the old Presbyterian Church of Scotland and the remains were interred in the Highland Cemetery.
