Dubuque, Ia. - August J. Ruegnitz died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William C. Jenne, 2022 Elm street, Monday morning at 2:15 o'clock. He had been ailing for a long time.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon from the Jenne residence at 2 o'clock to the Third Presbyterian church a half hour later. Interment will be made in Linwood cemetery.
Mr. Ruegnitz was born in Meckenberg, Germany, Nov. 22, 77 years ago and came to this country settling in Clayton, Ia., when fourteen years old. After his marriage 53 years ago to Miss Josephine Scherr at Elkader, he moved to Clayton, where he operated a general merchandise store for many years. Later he operated a hotel in Elkader.
Forty years ago Mr. Ruegnitz came to Dubuque and was employed in the car department of the Milwaukee railroad until six years ago. He was a member of the A.O.U.W. and the Woodmen of the World No. 78. He was an attendant of the Third Presbyterian church.
Mr. Ruegnitz is survived by two daughters, Msdames E.E. Ball and W.C. Jenne, a son B.A. Ruegnitz, all of this city, two sisters, Mesdames O.T. Oathout and Elizabeth Baker Henry, Pomona, Cal., three brothers, Albert, Cedar Falls, Louis, Pueblo, Col., Max Ruegnitz, Denver. His wife passed away nine years ago.
