Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guttenberg for Mrs. Paul "Hattie" Meier, 79, who died Saturday morning, June 7, at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union. Rev. Alfred J. Schmitz, pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiated at the services and the burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery in charge of the McBride Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were James Kuempel, Irwin J. Degnan, Howard Eglseder, Eldon Vorwald, Jack Meder and Jerome Tujetsch. Honorary pallbearers, all members of St. Ann's Society, were Mrs. Rose Buechel, Mrs. Florence Fukey, Mrs. Agnes Buetel, Mrs. Marie Junk, Mrs. Anna Degnan and Mrs. Margaret Kregel.
Mrs. Meier was born February 12, 1890, in Volga Township, Clayton County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Heck. On January 28, 1913, she was married to the late Paul J. Meier in Garnavillo. For 27 years, Mr. and Mrs. Meier operated a grocery store in Guttenberg.
Surviving Mrs. Meier are four daughters, Sister Carol, S.F.P.A., of Hill, Ia.; Miss Paulette Meier of Guttenberg; Mrs. Henry Henkel of Dubuque, and Mrs. Clark Bolsinger of Guttenberg; and two sons, Lloyd Meier of Clermont and Donald Meier of Cedar Rapids.
Also surviving are three brothers, John Heck of Osage, George Heck of Garnavillo and Frank Heck of Guttenberg; and three sisters, Miss Mayme Heck, Mrs. Herbert Kann and Mrs. Henry Fassbinder, all of Guttenberg.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter.
