Guttenberg, Ia., Feb 10 - John G. Hagensick, 83, prominent business man of Clayton county died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R.E. Munson, Lemmon, S.D., Tuesday morning, after a short illness. A week ago he had the misfortune to fall down at the home of his daughter and was seriously hurt, from the effects of which he never recovered.

Mr. Hagensick was born in Bavaria, Germany, Oct. 21, 1848, a son of J.M. and Margaret Hagensick. In 1856 he came to America with his parents, settling in Garnavillo township. When a young man he met with an accident at Port Huron, Mich., which caused the loss of one of his legs. He afterward learned the cigar-making trade, which he followed successfully for many years.

He first embarked in business in Garnavillo, and in 1881 he went to Elkader, where he was successfully engaged in the cigar manufacturing business for a number of years. While at Elkader he also held county and town offices at various times. In politics he was a democrat.

In 1877 he was married to Miss Charlotte Karp.

He was postmaster at Elkader during Cleveland's administration.

He is survived by one son, Martin G. Hagensick, of Guttenberg; one daughter, Mrs. R.E. Munson, of Lemmon, S.D.; one brother, Henry H. Hagensick, of Elkader, one half-brother, August Hagensick, of Iowa Falls, and one half-sister, Mrs. Bertha Gray of Elkader.

The body will be taken to Edgewood, Iowa, for burial.

Edgewood, Ia., Feb. 13 - Funeral services for John G. Hagensick, 83, former long time resident of Clayton county, who passed away at Lemmon, S.D., on February 7, 1932, were conducted by the Rev. McConkey at the M.E. church at Edgewood, Iowa on Friday. The body was laid to rest in the Edgewood cemetery. The funeral was very largely attended.

Mr. Hagensick is survived by one son, Martin G. Hagensick, of Guttenburg, one daughter, Mrs. R.E. Munson of Lemmon, South Dakota, one grandson; three brothers, H.H. Hagensick, of Elkader, Iowa, J.C. Hagensick, of Lincoln, Nebraska, C.W. Hagensick, of O'Neil, Nebraska; three half-brothers, J.L. Hagensick, of Read, Iowa, Fred Hagensick, of Lincoln, Nebraska, and August Hagensick, of Iowa Falls, Iowa; one half-sister, Mrs. Bertha Gray, of Elkader, Iowa.

Mr. John G. Hagensick, was at one time a prominent business man of Elkader. His wife preceded him in death nine years ago.
