Mervin Leonard Anderson was born October 7, 1906, in Lyon County, Inwood, Iowa, the son of Peter J. and Margaret Anderson.

He was baptized at Inwood, Iowa, and confirmed at Clermont Lutheran Church.

In 1929 he was united in marriage to Lillian Wold at Cresco. To this union six children were born, Merlin of Elkader, Burdette of Atkins, Elaine (Mrs. Ralph Hanson) of West Union and Sandra of Cedar Rapids and James and Sharon who died in infancy.

Most of his life was spent as a farmer in this area. The past 12 years he was employed by Fayette County.

He was a lifelong member of the Marion Lutheran Church.

Mr. Anderson has been in failing health for the past two and one-half years. In January he had brain surgery performed at the University Hospitals at Iowa City, after which he was transferred to the Fayette County Hospital at West Union, where he died Wednesday morning, April 7, at 4:30 a.m. at the age of 58.

He is survived by his widow, Lillian; and two sons and two daughters, Merlin of Elkader, Burdette of Atkins, Elaine (Mrs. Ralph Hanson) of West Union, Sandra of Cedar Rapids; step-mother, Mrs. Emma Anderson of Elgin; one brother, Clarence of St. Olaf; one half-brother, George of Parkersburg and a half-sister, Mae (Mrs. John Longmuir) of Elgin, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews survive. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, a brother and two children.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at the Marion Lutheran Church with interment at the Marion cemetery. Miss Corrine Rypestol presided at the organ accompanied Fremont Ogle, soloist.

Pallbearers were Walter Medberry, Lawrence West, Robert Medberry, Jake Hoover, Harry Saboe and Ed Boleyn.
