RUEBEN FRANCIS SMITH 1862-1924
The community was shocked to learn of the sudden death of R. F. Smith on Sunday morning, August 17, 1924 at age of 62 years, 6 months and 10 days. Cause of his death was heart trouble.
He was born, raised and spent his entire life in this vicinity. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and a brother Clay Smith. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Frank and Carter; two daughters, Mrs. Ed. Waterman and Mrs. John L. Costigan, four sisters, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral was held Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1924, from the home, 2 miles south of Garber. Interment was in Mt. Harmony Cemetery. The pallbears were M. J. O'Connor, August Lunt, M. W. Lovelt, P. J. Cassidy, E. C. Jennings and C. Schnespf. May he rest in peace.

Essentially the same obit appears in the Elkader Register, Thur., 21 Aug. 1924. Garber column; she may have copied the obit from that paper.
