The funeral services of James S. Dunn, 89, formerly of West Union, Iowa, were held here Wednesday morning at 9:00 from the Sacred Heart church. Rev. E. J. O'Hagan celebrated the mass. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery at Elkader with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Taken officiating.

Mr. Dunn died Sunday afternoon at 4:30 in Mercy Hospital, surrounded by his family. Mr. Dunn was ill only a short time. He was born Aug. 26, 1854, in Elkader, Iowa, the son of Peter and Winifred Dunn, and was the last of his immediate family. He was married to Mary McCarthy on Mar. 28, 1880. She preceded him in death on Mar 4 of this year.

Mr. Dunn in his early life was prominent in civic and political activities. He retired from active business in 1915 and located in West Union where he resided until a year ago when he moved to Oelwein and made his home with his daughter, Mrs. D. J. Raftis.

Mr. Dunn was devoted to his family and home. He was a faithful member of the Catholic church. He was the father of seven children, two of whom preceded him in death, James Leo and D. Irving.

Surviving are Peter F. Dunn, New Orleans; T. R. Dunn, Chicago; Mrs. J. J. Friend, New Hampton; Mrs. D. J. Raftis and Mrs. J. T. Lillis of Oelwein; three grandchildren, Mary Margaret, Ensign Daniel, jr., and Irving F. Raftis.
