Clayton County Register, Thur., 17 Dec. 1953

Funeral services were held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock for Warren "Jack" Goodin who died Monday morning at University Hospital in Iowa City. Services were conducted from St. Joseph's Catholic church in Elkader with the Rev. Daniel A. Gorman officiating. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.

Goodin's death came as the aftermath of a cornpicker accident which occurred at his farm home near Volga on October 27, in which he suffered the loss of his left hand and two fingers from the right hand. Following the accident Goodin was in an Oelwein hospital in serious condition for some time. Later he was returned to the hospital for additional surgery.

Then about two weeks ago he complained that his jaws were locked. He was taken to Iowa City on Dec. 6 for tetanus treatment. He had been given a fifty-fifty chance for recovery but the end came suddenly Monday morning.

Mr. Goodin was born at Volga City on March 24, 1909, the son of Warren R. and Susie Goodin. In 1929 he was married to Madonna Penneton. The family had been making their home on a farm near Volga City. Beside his widow he leaves 10 children. They are: Mrs. Leo Dennler of Elgin; Warren Jr. in the navy, Virginia, Richard, Robert, Susan, Margaret, Nancy, Donna and John at home.

In addition he is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Lillian Sandstrom, Mrs. Gladys Kamoss and Mrs. Maxine Blakenburg, all of New Jersey, and Mrs. Fern Seward of Fostoria, Iowa. There are also two brothers, Walter Goodin of Volga City and Wilbur of New Jersey.

Warren Goodin, farmer of near Volga City in Clayton county, is recovering from a corn picker accident that was different.

He first caught his left hand which was severed and in trying to remove the left hand he lost two fingers on his right hand.

The left arm was also broken near the elbow and he lost much blood as he was held fast in the picker an hour before he could free himself. Friends gathered at his farm a few days ago and picked a 105-acre field of corn to help him out.

A further attempt to identify relationships of the Goodin families resulted in the following article.
