Elkader- Mrs. Agnes Downey, 72, widow of James N. Downey, pioneer resident of Garnavillo township, died this morning at 8:30 at the home of her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Ploog, Dubuque. She had a heart attack while eating breakfast.
Mrs. Downey fell in July and broke her hip and has been bedridden since. She was born and raised in the Elkader vicinity and spent her entire life there until five years ago, when she went to live with her sister.
She is survived by two sons, Lawrence and Wilson, Elkader; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph Dinan, Elgin; her sister and two brothers, Mike and Dan Harding.
The remains will be at the home of her son, Lawrence, who lives on the home farm. Services will be Monday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 9:30 with burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
