Elkader- Harley Downey, 52, mayor of Elkader just 13 days, died at his home here Saturday afternoon following a brief illness.

Mr. Downey was elected mayor on March 27 and took office April 3. He was a member of the town council here for four years before.

He was born and reared on a farm in Volga township and moved here 23 years ago. He was engaged in the blacksmith business.

He is survived by his widow and one son, Francis of Albuquerque, N.M. He was preceded in death by another son, Don, who was killed Feb. 21, 1944, at Iwo Jima.

Services will be Tuesday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic church here and Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery.
