DIED.—Dec., 16, 1886, at Osterdock Mr. Andrew Lewis, of dropsy. Deceased was 72 years, one month and and{sic} one day old. He came to Clayton county in 1850, when he located in Jefferson township, where he opened a farm, and worked it till the steam engine explored Turkey valley when he purchased some town lots in the then new town of Osterdock. There he built a store, and followed the mercantile business up to his death. Deceased was an enterprising citizen who aided much in developing one of the wild parts of Clayton county. He was a professer of the Christian faith, and lived a life in keeping with his belief. He was honest in his dealings, and highly respected by all that knew him and was considered an upright man. Four sons and one daughter mourn the death of u{sic} good father. He leaves a fine property, the earnings of a busy life. The funeral took place last Saturday, Services were held at the school house, conducted by the United Brethren minister. His remains were laid to rest at a place which he had selected for that purpose several years ago.—{McGregor News.

On Thursday morning of last week, at about 3 o'clock, occurred the death of Andrew Lewis, an old and highly respected citizen of this place, after a lingering illness of a few months.

Mr. Lewis was born Nov. 14th, 1814 and was therefore at the time of his death 72 years, 1 month and 1 day old.

Mr. Lewis was a careful tiller of the soil for a number of years, where by frugality and industry he succeeded in gathering together a sufficient means with which he started in the merchantile business about 8 years ago and at which has been engaged since.

His remains were laid away in the family cemetery about 1˝ miles west of town on Saturday last, being followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends. All the children were present with the exception of one who resides at Blair, Nebraska.

Died, at his home in Osterdock, on December 17th, 1886, of heart disease and dropsy, Mr. Andrew Lewis, aged 72 years, 1 month and 1 day.

He was buried on the 18th in his own family burying ground, Rev. McGowan officiating.

Mr. Lewis was one of the old pioneer settlers of Clayton county, and leaves many friends and five surviving children who mourn his loss.
