Postville Review, Wed., 6 Jan. 1875.
Died- At his residence in Luana, Iowa, Dec. 22nd, 1874, John Truman, of dropsy, from which disease he suffered long and patiently. The deceased was born in 1833, in Grand Isle Co., Vt., came to Iowa in 1863, enlisted in the service of his country in the late rebellion in the 1st Iowa Cavalry, remained in the service until the close of the war, returned to his home in Iowa where he was actively engaged in business until a few months of his death. The bereaved widow has lost a kind husband, the orphan children an indulgent father, the community a good citizen and one of its best business men. By his quiet demeanor and strict integrity he won the esteem of all who knew him.
(He was evidently a member of Hardin Grange Post No. 1850 as a lengthy resolution of respect followed.)
