Elkader-- Catherine R. "Kate" Dinan, 85, of Dubuque, formerly of Elkader, died Friday, 14 Sept. 2001, in Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, following a long illness. Services: Monday at St. Joseph's Church, Elkader, with burial in the church cemetery. Leonard Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Three sisters survive: Eileen Hickey of Dubuque, Mary Kenneally of Elkader and Helen Sims of Rawlins, Wyo.; also, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 7 brothers and sisters: Margaret Whittle, Joe Dinan, Charlotte Lenhart, Richard Dinan, John Dinan, Bob Dinan and Ruth Meyer.

She was born 28 Mar. 1916 at Littleport, Iowa, the daughter of Michael and Margaret Henry Dinan; graduated Littleport High School and attended Mercy School of Nursing, receiving her RN, later receiving her BSN from DePaul University; served as a military nurse in WWII and after her service worked 29 years for the Veterans Administration as a nurse and administrator, retiring in 1975. She then worked as a psychiatric nurse at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque for 7 years.
