Postville Herald, Thur., 12 Dec. 1935. Condensed from a longer obit.

Luana-- Christoph H. Overbeck, Eldest son of Adam and Louisa (Wagman) Overbeck, was born in the province of Hanover, Germany, 9 June 1843, and there he was baptized. When 8 years of age he came with his parents to America, the journey by sailboat lasting 6 weeks and 3 days. They stayed one year at Holland, Indiana, then came to Clayton county, where the parents received a tract of government land near Guttenberg, Iowa, in 1854.

Christoph received his religion in the Lutheran church at Guttenberg, was confirmed in 1858, and in 1874 was married to Miss Caroline Bierbaum. To this union 12 children were born, of which 5 are living.

In 1876 he purchased a farm in Grand Meadow township, the farm now owned by Wm. Radloff. In 1894 he moved to Luana and engaged in the hardware business for 6 years. In 1899 his wife passed away. In 1904 he retired, and that same year he was married to his second wife, Mrs. Minnie Neverman, at Luana. His second wife died 14 March 1935.

He was blessed with a rugged constitution and enjoyed splendid health until recent years when the infirmities of old age became burdensome. Last 22 Nov. he fell at his home and fractured his left hip. His remaining health then failed him rapidly. On Thursday evening his Lord delivered him at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 26 days.

He is survived by the following children: Miss Caroline Overbeck, at home; Mrs. John Georges of Lily, S.D.; Ben Overbeck of Luana; Mrs. Rev. W. H. Loeske of New Orleans, La.; Mrs. Arthur H. Berg of Luana; also, 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Henry Overbeck, of Glenfield, N.D.

The funeral was held in the Lutheran church at Luana, with burial in the Luana cemetery.

NOTE: In addition to the children mentioned in the obit a card of thanks was signed by Mrs. Guy Dickinson, exact relationship not given.
