Strawberry Point-- Kurt William Fenchel, 45, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in his home from cancer and complications of pneumonia. Services: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Roberson Funeral Home, Strawberry Point, where friends may call after 5 p.m. Friday. Burial: will be at a later date. The Rev. Steven Rye will officiate.

The eldest child of George and Phyllis (Wedmeyer) Fenchel, he was born Sept. 17, 1953, in Cass County Hospital, Atlantic, Iowa, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He attended Starmont High School, Strawberry Point, graduating in 1971. Kurt attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette for one year and received a B.A. degree in art from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, in 1975, specializing in the media of pottery and drawing. He was an experienced cabinet maker, finish carpenter and cement contractor and was last employed as a roofer. His hobbies included trout fishing, hunting, reading and planting trees.

He will be missed by his mother, Phyllis Fenchel of Strawberry Point; sisters, Sue (Eldon) Fenton of Strawberry Point, Julie (Doug) Sorensen of Hanlontown and Kathy (Dennis) McNeal of Ossian; brothers, Timothy of Clarian and Mark and Dar, both of Hull; 10 nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his father, George B. Fenchel, in 1990; two uncles and a niece, Faith Fenton, in 1985.

The family requests no flowers.
