Monona, Ia. - Funeral services for John Tayek, 69, who died in his car of a heart attack while enroute to Monona Thursday, were held at the Schultz funeral Home, Monona, Monday morning. The Rev. Vernon J. Peters, pastor of St. Mary's Church, McGregor, officiated. Burial was at McGregor.
Mr. Tayek, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Tayek, of Monona, was born in Giard Township, Jan. 27, 1875. He was married to Miss Katherine Kinney on Jan. 12, 1896.
He had been employed by the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad Company for 29 years, as section foreman, extra gang foreman, and was road master for nine years. He served at Ossian and Marquette, Ia. He retired to a farm in Giard Township, where he was living at the time of his death, 25 years ago.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Sylvester Tayek, of Marquette; a granddaughter, Kathryn Ann Tayek, Marquette; his father, Anton Tayek, Monona; five brothers, Joe, Fred and Frank, all of Monona, Ben of McGregor and J.J of Elkader, Ia.; and a sister, Mrs. William Kozelka, Postville, Ia.
