Margie May Schlein, 79, of Monona, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at the Good Sanaritan Center, Postville, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana. The Rev. Christopher Staley will officiate. Burial will follow in Monona City Cemetery, Monona. Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, and one hour before services at the church Saturday.

Margie was born on May 21, 1929, rural Monona to Christian and Emma (Kiester) Levenhagen. She graduated from Monona High School and received her teacher's certificate from Luther College. After receiving her certificate Margie taught country school for two years.
She was united in marriage to Burton "Pete" Schlein on August 5, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. Four children were born to this union.
Margie and Pete farmed together for many years north of Luana, Iowa and east of Monona.
She enjoyed babysitting, baking cakes, doing crafts, gardening, and quilting. She took great pride in teaching Sunday School for thirty-five years at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana. Margie loved spending time with her grandchildren and always looked forward to their frequent visits.Survivors include her children: Douglas (Connie) Schlein, Monona, Cynthia (Jerry) Niehaus, Guttenberg, Daryl (Mary) Schlein, Monona, Sheryl (Mark) Minnier, Monona; eight grandchildren: Darin Schlein, Timothy (Bridget Gorman), Candice Schlein, Laurie Schlein (fiance Jonathan Oddo), Mary Minnier, Carrie Niehaus, Michael Minnier, and Emily Schlein; eight siblings: Donald Levenhagen, Monona, Mary (Milton) Turner, Waukon, Helen Harbach, San Diego, California, Darlene (Marvin) Miller, McGregor, Edna (Charles) Patrick, La Jolla, California, Agnes Tesar, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Harvey (JoLena) Levenhagen, Monona, Lillian Eldreth, Asheboro, North Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
Margie May Schlein was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Burton on February 15, 2008; and one sister, Lovina Timmerman.
