Alverta Marie Knudtson, 78, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, in Guttenberg Municipal Hospital after a sudden illness. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. Paul Lutheran Church, by the Rev. L. R. Lechner. Burial: Guttenberg City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Born Sept. 28, 1921, near Colesburg, Iowa, the daughter of William Harbaugh and Hazel Baker Harbaugh, she was united in marriage to Elmer Knudtson on Feb. 19, 1938, in St. Olaf. Alverta was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer; four daughters, Bonnie (Donald A.) Moser and Karen (Steve) Kriesler, both of Colesburg, Sandra (Jim) Kolker of Guttenberg and Diane (Russell) Schoenauer of Waukee; a son, Dennis (Elaine) Knudtson of Marion; six grandchildren, Jason Kolker, Erik Knudtson, Shaylee Knudtson, Kristal Moser, Frank Schoenauer and Russ Schoenauer, Jr.; a sister, Lois Barry of Dubuque; and a granddaughter-in-law, Jane Funk.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald; and a grandson, Jeff Kolker.
