McGregor, Ia. - The body of William R. Stone, McGregor town clerk and Milwaukee Railroad employee, who has been missing since May 4th, was found in the Mississippi River Wednesday morning by Federal Ranger A.E. Schmidt. Stone disappeared Thursday, May 4th when he failed to appear at a council meeting. Searchers discovered his car at Pikes Peak State Park. An all night search failed to reveal his whereabouts and blood hounds brought from LaCrosse trailed him to the Mississippi. The river was dragged for days but the body could not be located. The search was finally given up.
On discovering the body several miles down the river south of Pikes Peak, Ranger Schmidt summoned J.F. Walter of McGregor, and the body was identified by clothing Stone wore when he disappeared and by bridge work in his teeth.
