Funeral services were held Monday, September 24 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, for Emil F. Aulerich, who died September 20 at the Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.
Emil Friedrich Aulerich was born two miles north of Farmersburg, Iowa, August 18, 1890 on the farm of his parents currently owned by Merlin Flesner. He was one of the ten children of George Aulerich and Wilhelmina nee Klinge.
He was baptized September 28, 1890 in the parental home by the Rev. Johannes Graening and confirmed March 27, 1904 by the Rev. Johannes Graening in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Monona. He attended the Bismark country school, Monona high school and a business college in Cedar Rapids.
On February 3, 1914 he was united in marriage to Amelia Dorothea Schultz at St. Paul Lutheran church in Postville when the Rev. Kuenne was pastor. They would have observed their 60th wedding anniversary in 1974. Mrs. Aulerich preceded him in death on August 9.
The couple farmed west of Monona until December, 1948 when they moved to their residence in Monona. Mr. Aulerich then did soil sampling in Clayton county for approximately 16 years.
Mr. Aulerich served on various church boards and the church council, was a member and officer of the Brotherhood and the American Lutheran Church men until his recent illness. With his wife he completed the Bethel Bible Study courses, served on the Luana Consolidated school board for 17 years and was president for a number of years.
Surviving are his two daughters Mrs. Otmar (Florence Pauline) Bruns, Monona and Mrs. Don (Dorleen) Witt, Elkader; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; Rev. and Mrs. Gary Bruns and Stephanie of Oak Grove, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Brent Bruns, Kevin and Heidi of Monona; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Witt, serving with the Peace Corps in Afghanistan and Carol and Donna Witt of Elkader.
Preceding him in death were his wife Amelia, three brothers, Henry, George and an infant brother; six sisters; Mrs. Charles (Bertha) Engelhart; Mrs. David (Mathilda) Stevenson; Amelia Aulerich; Mrs. Herbert (Emma) Brownson and Freida and Ruth who died in early childhood; also a son-in-law Don Witt.
