William John Aird

William (Bill) John Aird, son of Robert and Minnie (Huse) Aird, was born August 24, 1895 at Ion, Iowa. He received his education at the Ion School.

Bill was united in marriage to Lillie Fett on November 21, 1918 at the Courthouse in Waukon, Iowa. He was engaged in farming, retiring in 1970. Bill enjoyed fishing, playing cards and a good baseball game. He especially enjoyed the New York Yankees. Bill enjoyed life and people.

Bill died Thursday, February 6, 1997 at the Good Samaritan Home in Waukon, Iowa.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Lillie, who died August 21, 1978; two sons, Robert and Alfred; two grandchildren, Lance and Louise; one brother, Clarence; one sister, Eleanor.

Survivors include one daughter, Helen (Honey) and her husband, Thomas Martin, of Shullsburg, WI; two daughters-in-law, Bernice Aird of Dubuque and Geri Aird of Waterloo; nine grandchildren, Kim and husband, Jim Francis, of Warren, IL, Greg Martin of Shullsburg, WI, Joe Martin and wife, Annie, of Shullsburg, WI, Lauri and husband, Dick Teutschmann of Gratiot, WI, Christine and husband, Bob Knautz, of Shullsburg, WI, Tom Martin and wife, Emily, of Shullsburg, WI, Cindy and husband, Dave Stewart of Dubuque, Denise Aird of Dubuque, and Kevin Aird and wife, Melanie, of Pleasant Grove, UT; 17 great grandchildren, Jacob, Karla and Krystal Francis, Brandon and Kiel Martin, Katie and Jake Martin, Amanda and Jaime Teutschmann, Brent and Brett Knautz, Elizabeth Martin, Jeff, Chris, Jenny and Carrie Stewart, and Madison Aird; nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 9, 1997, 1:00 p.m. at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, with the Rev. Christopher Staley officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Dave Stewart, Jim Francis, Brandon Martin, Kiel Martin, Chris Stewart and Jeff Stewart. Active pallbearers were Greg Martin, Joe Martin, Tom Martin, Dick Teutschmann, Bob Knautz and Kevin Aird. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of services.
