R. Wiethorn Laid to Rest

Funeral services for Raymond Wiethorn, 68, were held Tuesday, October 23, 1979, at the Garden City United Methodist "Brick" Church, Rev. Carroll brown officiating. Music was provided by organist Mrs. Robert Evans, soloist Mrs. Tom James, and the congregation. Pallbearers were Marlyn Henderson, Wilbert Wiethorn, Donald Schofield, Irving Horns, Howard Bernhard, William Schlein, James McNally, Sr., and George Erbe. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of services.

Raymond Henry Wiethorn was born on November 6, 1910, to the family of Elmer and Clara (Klotzbach) Wiethorn in Linton Township of Allamakee county, Iowa. He attended country school in Linton Township and graduated from the Monona Public School. On May 1, 1943, he was united in marriage to Marie Schupbach at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union one son, Bill, was born.

Ray enjoyed his life in farming, assessing, and being agent for German Mutual Insurance. He liked to work with machinery and was often found helping a neighbor with repairs. He was grateful for our earth and felt one should improve the land through good farming practices.

He was active in the Farm Bureau for many years, and presently belonged to the Rural Fire Company, the Antique Power Club, and Garden City United Methodist Church.

Ray had a love to be with people and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

He passed from this life on October 20, 1979, at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He was preceeded in death by his father, Elmer Wiethorn, and by a granddaughter, Sandra Ann Wiethorn.

Ray is survived by his wife, Marie; his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Faye Wiethorn; six grandchildren: Rick, Carmen, Paula, Amy, Daniel and Michael; other relatives, and many friends.
