William B. Wiethorn
Funeral services for William B. Wiethorn, 74, were held Tuesday afternoon, April 13, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran church, with Rev. R. E. Langholz officiating.
The body lay in state at the church from 12:30 o'clock until the time of the services. Burial was in the Monona City cemetery.
Mr. Wiethorn became ill suddenly late Saturday afternoon and was taken that evening to the Postville hospital, where he died Sunday morning, April 11, at 5 o'clock.
He was born the son of Henry and Elizabeth, nee Bernhard, Wiethorn, July 4, 1890, at Watson, and was baptized Aug. 10, 1890. He received his education in the rural schools of Clayton county and was confirmed in 1913 by Pastor Wappler.
He was married to Adele Wirkler Feb. 14, 1912, and the couple were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in 1962. Mrs. Wiethorn died April 8, 1964.
Mr. Wiethorn was in business in Monona for 40 years and was associated with the Kaiser and Wiethorn General store, the Monona Department store, and Wiethorn's Shoe store. He also served as Justice of the Peace for 30 years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church, the Masonic lodge No. 70, and the Monona Commercial club.
Preceding him in death besides his wife were his parents, and three brothers, Elmer, George and Ben.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Janice) Heussner of Fredricksburg, and Mrs. Vernon (Jean) Doom of Monona; two brothers, Harry Wiethorn of Phoenix, Ariz., and Gilbert Wiethorn, Sr., Monona, and five grandchildren.
Music at the services was provided by congregational singing. Mrs. George Heins was the organist.
Pallbearers were: Raymond, Wilbert, Eldo, and Gilbert Wiethorn, Jr., Scott and Tom Hughes, and Brian Doom.
