Guttenberg, Ia. - Burial services for Mrs. Rose Smith, who died at Elgin, Ill., Tuesday, were held in the City Cemetery here Thursday morning. She was a former Guttenberg resident but had been living in Illinois since 1915.

She came to Guttenberg over 30 years ago with her husband, Fred Smith, when the latter became editor of the Guttenberg Press. Later they operated the Central Hotel here. In 1915 Mrs. Smith moved to Algonquin, Ill., where she operated a hotel for less than a year before moving to Elgin.

She is survived by two sons, Roy and Harry; and a daughter, Etha. Her husband and one son, Frank, preceded her in death.

~Note: Guttenberg cemetery records on the Clayton co. IAGenWeb site give her dates as 08/27/1877-01/01/1939, and her maiden name as Taylor.
