Velma Passmore of Monona, Iowa died on Monday, January 3, 2005 at her home following a brief illness. She was 79 years old. Services were held on Friday, January 7 at 11 a.m. at Living Faith United Methodist Church in Monona. Rev. Dennis Gilbert officiated. Interment was at Vandalia Cemetery in rural Runnells, Iowa. Rev. Corby Johnson officiated. Leonard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Velma was born to Alvin and Effie (Nagle) Woomer on December 12, 1925 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. Velma graduated from the Eagle Grove High School and attended Junior College in Des Moines, Iowa. On August 4, 1946, she was united in marriage to Walter Passmore at Eagle Grove. Four children were born to this marriage.

Walter and Velma farmed near Kanawha, Iowa and in the Belmond, Iowa area. In 1953, they moved to Britt, Iowa where she was employed as a dental assistant. In 1975, they moved to Bloomfield, Iowa where she was the bookkeeper for Wilcoxson Transport. They retired in 1992, at which time they moved to Monona and became members of the Garden City United Methodist Church. Velma was a member of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, the Monona Historical Society, and was very active in her church and community activities. In 2003, she received the Governor's Volunteer Award.

Surviving are her three sons and their wives, Charles (Leigh) Passmore of Rialto, California, Gary (Fran) Passmore of Monona, Iowa, Lyle (Diane) Passmore of Minnesota Lake, Minnesota; one daughter, Ann Kerley of Oswego, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Donna Passmore of North Mankato, Minnesota; fifteen grandchildren: Michael and Lisa Passmore, Angela Graziano, Amy Wiltgen; Sarah Kerley; Paul, Shawn, Rachel, and Scott Passmore; Jason and Brittany Passmore; Andrea Benzing; Briana Brunner; Devyn Wheatly, and Shandra McLellan; twenty-six great-grandchilren: Michael and Michelle Passmore; Lauren, Thomas, and Kyle Graziano; Gabriela, Alexander, and Aiyana Passmore; Daniel, Anthony, and Russell Passmore; Ashley Passmore; Skylar Passmore; Sean and Jasmine Bengston; Isaiah Passmore; Zachery and Tyler Larson; Cael and Makenzie Brunner; Lakin and Jenna Benzing; Morgan and Jennaleigh Wheatly and Rex McLellan.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and her husband Walter on January 24, 1993.

Casketbearers were Lisa Passmore, Angela Graziano, Amy Wiltgen, Rachael Passmore, Brittany Passmore and Sarah Kerley.
