Floyd L. Wilkins, formerly of Monona, died Sunday, February 24, 2002, at Manor Care Health Services in Waterloo, Iowa. He was 89 years old. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2002 at Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona. Reverend Dennis Gilbert officiated. Burial was in the Council Hill Cemetery, rural McGregor, Iowa. Schultz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Floyd, son of Thomas and Laura (Kaiser) Wilkins, was born January 15, 1913 at home in rural Monona in Allamakee County. He received his education at the Irish Ridge School. Floyd was united in marriage to Hazel Huff on February 22, 1936 at the Methodist parsonage in McGregor. He was self-employed as a farmer until 1973. He then worked for Bob Evans and also for Curt and Julie Fisk in their hardware stores. Floyd enjoyed his garden and also spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Curt, who died November 15, 1969; three brothers Lee, Wayne, and Ray; and two sisters, Violet Adney and Marcella Wilkins.

Survivors include his wife Hazel, a daughter Bonnie and her husband Roger Thompson of LaPorte City, Iowa; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers Wilbur and wife Sarah Wilkins of New Albin, Iowa, and Kenneth and wife Delores Wilkins of Pahrump, Nevada; two sisters, Charlotte Wagner of Cedar Rapids, and Iowa Schierholz of McGregor.

Honorary casket bearers were Beth and Todd Jackson, Brian Wilkins, Denice Thompson, Jamie Johnson, Kevin and Julie Thompson, and Colene and David Stauffer. Casket bearers were Dwight Wilkins, Keith Wilkins, Travis McCull_ _ ? * a portion of the clipping has been torn away at this point, there was a Fett, and David Job.
