Mrs. Wolter Services Held

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Wolter, 85, of Luana were held Friday morning, Nov. 19, at 10 o'clock at St. John Lutheran church in Luana with Rev. Luther A. Meyer officiating.

Mrs. Wolter was taken to the Postville hospital about two weeks ago, where she was a patient for a time, and was then moved to the Prairie du Chien Convalescent home. She died of pneumonia at Memorial hospital in Prairie du Chien, Tuesday, Nov. 16.

As Frieda Wilhelmina Mina, she was born the daughter of John and Mina Wilke, Oct. 5, 1880, in Heiddorf, Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith Oct. 17, 1880. She received her education in the schools there. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in April, 1895, in Conow, Germany.

When she was 18 years old in 1898, she came to America. She worked in and around Postville until March 21, 1901, when she was married to Henry Wolter at the home of her uncle, John Schultz, by Rev. Emil Bockelman. Mr. Wolter had come over from Germany at about the same time as she did.

The couple settled on a farm near Postville in Allamakee county, where they lived for nine years. They then moved to a farm near the creamery at Luana, living here until they retired to Luana in 1943.

When she was married, Mrs. Wolter brought her mother from Germany to stay with the couple. She lived with them for seven years.

Mrs. Wolter lived in Luana until the death of her husband in 1958, when she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Leonard Oldag, in Postville.

She was a member of the Ladies Aid society of St. John Lutheran church for more than 50 years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, one son, Fred, who died in infancy, and one grandchild.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Leonard Oldag of Postville, two sons, Arthur and George of Luana; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Music at the services was provided by the choir, which sang two hymns, and the congregation singing one.

Pallbearers were Merle Baade, Elmer Erb, Marvin Kruse, Orville Meier, Adrian Riveland, and William Staley.

Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
