Elgin Echo, Thur., 19 Nov. 1903.

Mrs. Polack departed this life Friday Nov. 13, 1903, at the home of her son, William, in Highland. She was 77 years old at the time of her demise and had resided in that township since 1852. Deceased was a lady of hgh repute and many virtues and had a host of friends who will mourn the loss of a true friend and neighbor. Mrs. Polack was a widow, her husband having preceded her to the better land about six years ago. She leaves a son William and a daughter Mary to mourn her loss. The funeral services were held from her home Sunday, Rev. Baxter, of Elkader, officiating and interment was made in the Highland* cemetery.

Mrs. Thomas Pollock, nee Helen Hood, was born March 13, 1826, in the parish of Kingoldum, Forfarshire, Scotland. She came to America with her parents, Thomas and Martha (McKay) Hood in 1853. Remaining there only a short time they came west and settled in Clayton county, Iowa.

In 1859 she was married to Thomas Pollock. Four children were born to them, two died in infancy, one daughter, Mary, and one son, William, with whom she lived until her death, survive her.

One brother, James Hood, and one sister, Mrs. Margaret McLaren, reside at Independence, Iowa, and a sister, Anna, lives at Dundee, Ill. Her husband preceded her in death, May 11th, 1896.

Mrs. Pollock was a consistent member of the United Presbyterian church, exercising her faith in deeds as well as in belief, throughout her life. She was appreciated as a good neighbor and friend, as was evidenced by the large concourse of people, gathered to do honor to her memory.

The funeral service was held at the home of her son William, with whom she lived, Sunday, Nov. 15th, at 2:00 p.m. and the body laid to rest in the Highland* cemetery beside Kindred dust.

Mrs. Thos. Pollock died in Highland township recently. She was born in 1826, and has resided in Clayton County for many years, in fact was one of the early settlers. A son and a daughter survive her. Her husband died about seven years ago.
